Stephan Gomez is the Teaching Assistant for Orchestras at the University of Kentucky, where he is also pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting. Before moving to Lexington, he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Orchestral Conducting under the mentorship of Miguel Harth-Bedoya. Stephan’s repertoire spans a wide range of symphonic and operatic masterworks, with a particular emphasis on music of the 20th and 21st centuries. He frequently leads innovative, cross-disciplinary projects that incorporate multimedia, live narration, film, and sensory elements to create engaging and immersive audience experiences. Highlighted performances include Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du Soldat, Octet for Wind Instruments, and Dumbarton Oaks; Milhaud’s La Création du Monde; Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte; John Corigliano’s Poem in October; and Andrés Martín’s Noche de Alebrijes. He has also conducted recording sessions in collaboration with living composers, musicians, and interdisciplinary artists, to champion the creation and performance of new music.

Stephan has served as a cover conductor for programs with both the Fort Worth Symphony and Dallas Symphony, and has conducted the Omaha Symphony in a masterclass. A passionate advocate for music education, he is regularly invited to lead TMEA All-Region Orchestras and frequently works as a clinician with middle and high school orchestra programs across different states. Each summer, he serves on the faculty of the Texas Institute for Orchestral Studies (Fort Worth, TX), conducting sectionals, rehearsals, and performances as part of an intensive orchestral immersion program designed to develop young musicians through the study and performance of major orchestral repertoire. In addition, he is on faculty at The Conducting Institute (Fort Worth, TX), where he mentors emerging conductors in areas such as score study, analysis, conducting technique, and keyboard skills.
